Performs preventive maintenance, repair, minor overhaul, and operation of a variety of air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment; installs, replaces, and performs work on compressors, starters, motors, pumps, cooling towers, pressure switches, etc.; performs work using oxyacetylene and electric soldering and welding on refrigerating and air conditioning systems; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Four (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in the maintenance and overhaul of air conditioning and/or refrigeration equipment as a helper or apprentice under a journey level air conditioning and/or refrigeration mechanic.
Applicants must possess a valid license to drive in the State of Hawai‘i.
Certification as a Type I, Type II, Type III or Universal Technician is required in accordance with Section 608 of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Clean Air Act, 1990, as amended.

Internal Complaint Process (Administrative Review)
Applicants who do not agree with an action taken on their application must file an internal complaint with the System Director of Human Resources, in accordance with the University’s Administrative Procedure A9.140. The internal compliant form must be completed and contain the specific reasons(s) supporting the request for review. Complaints must be postmarked within seven (7) working days from the date of notice and sent to: University of Hawai‘i, Office of Human Resources, Civil Service Employee Relations Section, 2440 Campus Road, Administrative Services Bldg. #2, Honolulu, Hawai‘i 96822. A change as a result of the internal complaint will not affect the employment consideration of referred applicants or another applicant’s appointment to the vacancy.
Substitution of Training for Experience
Training received at an accredited technical school in an air conditioning and/or refrigeration curriculum may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.
