Job Duties

Responsible in the providing skilled nursing services for patients a student health clinic. Responsible for determining the priorities of patient care needs, planning, and providing nursing care and treatment services. May also be responsible for planning and implementing in-service training programs for nurses and nursing assistants. Prepare and implement in-service and/or out-service nursing education programs. Positions may serve as clinic specialists, providing direct service in complex nursing situations and demonstrating to the nursing staff, new techniques and methods of patient care. Positions at this level are expected to be sufficiently expert in this knowledge and judgment to warrant only cursory review of their decisions. Positions may be assigned to permanent shifts or may rotate amongst the staff to provide adequate coverage for the clinic’s hours of operation which may include holidays and weekends.

Educational Requirement

Experience Requirement

Applicants must have had one-half (1/2) year of professional work experience as a registered nurse. For public health nursing positions, applicants must have had public health nursing experience in the appropriate quantities.

License Requirement

License to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Hawaii

Substitutions Allowed

Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

Physical and Medical Requirements

Applicants must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position, effectively and safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Internal Complaint Process (Administrative Review)

Applicants who do not agree with an action taken on their application must file an internal complaint with the System Director of Human Resources, in accordance with the University’s Administrative Procedure A9.140. The internal compliant form must be completed and contain the specific reasons(s) supporting the request for review. Complaints must be postmarked within seven (7) working days from the date of notice and sent to: University of Hawai‘i, Office of Human Resources, Civil Service Employee Relations Section, 2440 Campus Road, Administrative Services Bldg. #2, Honolulu, Hawai‘i 96822. A change as a result of the internal complaint will not affect the employment consideration of referred applicants or another applicant’s appointment to the vacancy.
